Is Hurricane Earl going to smash into Eastern Massachusetts?

We are very frightened of Hurricane Earl because it looks like a vicious storm.|||Looks like it.|||At this point it is still too early to say but, best guesses are that it will stay out on the open ocean. The National Hurricane Center is expecting it strengthen into a category 4 hurricane within the next couple days due to the water temps and the favorable upper level atmosphere shear it will soon hit waters with degrees around 85-90 degrees which will cause it to strengthen into a category 4. At this point the only impacts are getting winds and rain from the western quadrant of the storm that will graze the mainland. Most of the models are saying it will stay out over the atlantic but, a few are thinking it will make landfall around North Carolina. Either way if you live in and around the coast now is a good time to start planning and preparing it is better to be safe then sorry. The path should become better known by late tomorrow or wednesday to see if it will make that turn more northeast. There are 2 lows behind earl that we have to keep an eye on as well.|||The "cone of uncertainty" has shifted more now towards the west meaning New England....Hurricane Earl is now a Cat 4 according to NHC site. Im in CT and we are nervous as well....we are way overdue for a hurricane!|||I don't think it will be a direct hit. The long wave trough should keep it out to sea. However, it will pass close. I see problems with high surfs, rip currents, some beach erosion, and some gusty winds and rain from Earl's outer bands. IMO, if any area will take a direct impact, it would be the Canadian Maritimes. I expect it to stay 75-125 miles off shore.|||It is predicted to skim the eastern coast near that area possibly as a category 2 hurricane on early Saturday morning. More info can be found here http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.sht鈥?/a>|||I'll do the rain dance|||yes
