Is hurricane earl supposed to hit new york especially westchester?

My little brother is convinced that the hurricane is going to hit westchester, new york. Is it? whoever gets the mostt answers for our argument wins. thanks:)|||No. Earl is predicted to stay in the Atlantic and the outer edges skim the eastern coastal areas, then head into eastern Maine, then into St. John area. More info can be found here http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.sht鈥?/a>|||It is highly unlikely that a bad hurricane will ever hit New York. When Earl was still even with norther florida, they had it a Hurricane 4 almost to New York. However, it down grade way before New York and was only a cat 1 and Tropical Storm by the time it got up there. Also the further from the eye you get, the lower the wind speed. It does not take that many miles to see the wind speed drop quit a bit. Of course every hurricane is different, but this is normal for almost all hurricanes. When Charley made land fall in florida in 2004 it was a cat 4, almost the highest category. Cape coral saw the 140 mile an hour winds, but it came to within 15 miles of the eye, some parts of the city where in the eye. Now Bonita Springs only 35 miles from the eye saw only winds of 65 miles an hour, a huge drop. 50 to 60 miles from the eye was only around 35 miles an hour, not that bad at all. That low of wind speed is not going to do much at all.

So even if a hurricane 1 or 2comes, you have to be near the eye to get the worst. If the eye comes no closer than 20 miles away, it usually is nothing to worry about. If it is a category 3 or 4 you need to be about 30 or 45 miles away from the eye. If a category 5, 60 or 70 miles from the eye would be ok.|||I think it is supposed to stay in the ocean (Atlantic)

can you help me ( I don't usually like asking but I'm desperate)
