What are the chances of Hurricane Earl hitting the East Coast?

I know there is a chance that it may or may not hit the east coast of America. But what are the chances? And if there is any chance of seeing it, when is it supposed to come? Weather people just beat around the bush, they never get to the point.|||Earl is predicted to stay in the Atlantic and the outter edges skim the eastern coastal areas. More info can be found here http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at2.sht…|||Regardless of whether it actually makes landfall or not, the east coast will see a lot of severe weather (wind, rain, thunderstorms, and high surf) from Earl. The fact that the eye actually makes landfall or if it comes within, say, 100 miles of the coast doesn't make much difference as far as the severity of the weather on the coast. The Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi coastlines all got ravaged by Katrina, yet the eye only passed over Louisiana.|||I would say it has a 60% chance at the moment. If it comes then think of Katrina because that scene would be repeated throughout the entire eastern seaboard.

Hurricane Earl is currently a Category 4 hurricane, which means it is packing winds of 131-155 mi/hr. at the moment North Carolina is on hurricane watch but the NHC (national hurricane center) are saying that no direct land impact is expected BUT if it moves west then it will bring it into direct impact with the eastern seaboard, if this happens then the NHC says it will cause "catastrophic" damage to the east coast, Katrina was a category 3 storm when it hit New Orleans, Earl may hit at Category 4 so would be much worse then Katrina.

I have read numerous articles that if the worse happens and moves into line with the US for a direct impact then cape cod WILL be hit on Friday or Saturday, please do not panic at that statement, it is IF it moves west. Please be aware that if, for your own safety you feel the need to evacuate please do so calmly.

If it hits or comes close to the east coast then i would advise to keep away from the coast, i would highly recommend you to listen for announcements and, just as precaution move to higher ground if it is said that it will hit or come dangerously close, if you are told to evacuate then please do so, don't make the mistake some of the Katrina survivors did and stay, leave.

FEMA administrator Craig Fugate said state and local authorities may need to order further evacuations later this week.He said: 'Today is the day to make sure you have your plan completed and your supplies in place.', In other words you have to have a plan in place because if it hits it may be too late to evacuate everyone.

Good luck and God bless|||I'm not a meteorologist, but all the others are saying it IS a little early too tell. But they are also saying the chances of Earl hitting the East coast, especially the northeast is getting higher and higher. People have many opinions of Earl. Some think it will stay off shore and some think it should hit the U.S

It's still early and anything can change. We'll just have to wait.
