I live in Halifax, NS and we have been having some very hot days, reaching 36 degrees celcius with humidex of 40+ today alone. It has been like this for 3 days now and will continue on until Friday/sat when Earl is supposed to hit. How will this recent hot weather(10 degrees celcius warmer than usual this year) effect Earl when it hits?|||Generally, the higher the heat, the worse the storm, although the heat over the area where the storm was born is more significant. That is because the heat increases the amount of energy and also the amount of moisture in the storm system.
All winds essentially are transfers of heat from warmer to cooler areas, so heat can potentially worsen a storm, especially if an adjacent area is much cooler. That change could send tons of water pouring down eventually.
The heat in your area won't make the hurricane worse for you, but it will build it up and keep it going longer and really hurt the people North of you.|||The hot temperatures that you are getting in NS are the direct result of a strong high pressure ridge that is located north of Hurricane Earl. It is this strong high pressure system that may be the fly in the ointment in Hurricane Earl's projected path. So stay tuned, especially if you may be in the path of this hurricane.
